First, I bring to your attention a recent event held here in Brooklyn, USA.

Beers With(out) Beards

Hop Culture premiered Beers With(out) Beards — a week long celebration promoting the accomplishments of women in craft beer — hosted in New York City, New York from Tuesday Aug. 7th, 2018 to Sunday Aug. 12th, 2018.

The week culminated in a tasting festival featuring 23 of the top-tier women-run breweries in the country held at The Well in Brooklyn on Saturday, Aug. 11th.

FOLLOW UP: I had a chance to chat with the organizer of the event, Grace Weitz, at a helth food luncheonette in Manhattan.

She told me that the event was successful enough to make plans for another event in 2019. She insisted that there was always a welcome for the mastiff of the specie. Nevertheless she did concede that when a beer is tasted it is not possible to tell if it was brewed by a male or a female brewer.


Mayflower Brewing Co. Releases Boomerang

Plymouth, MA – Mayflower Brewing Company is pleased to release Boomerang today in their tasting room. Boomerang is a refreshing pale ale with an unfiltered appearance that pours light golden in color. The beer is built on pilsner, pale, and wheat malts with oats for a pillowy mouthfeel. Boomerang features Galaxy hops in the whirlpool with a healthy dry-hopped dose of Galaxy and Ella. Because Ella is the little sister of Galaxy, these hops complement each other so that notes of pineapple, lemon, and floral notes dominate, making this beer approachable for your everyday drinking.

Boomerang will have limited availability in the tasting room September 14th starting at noon for tastings, flights, pints, growler fills and 4 packs of 16 ounce cans. The beer will also be heading out to the New England market as well.

Wilmington, DE (September 13, 2018) – Delaware-based Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant is thrilled to announce the opening of their first Center City Philadelphia location in the new East Market development. Doors opened  to the public September 13 at 5:00 p.m. This opening marks the 15th brewery and restaurant for the group.

The approximately 8,500 sq. ft. Iron Hill Center City seats approximately 275, plus al fresco dining and includes an on-site brewery with capacity to produce 900 barrels of their award-winning craft beer annually.

The brewery and restaurant operates Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. andSunday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Jai Alai IPA on the Way to Stockholm, Sweden

TAMPA, FL, SEPTEMBER 13, 2018 – CCB has partnered with Great Brands AB of Stockholm, Sweden, to distribute its portfolio of unique ales and lagers throughout Scandinavia. Kegs and twelve-ounce cans of Jai Alai IPA and Guayabera Citra Pale Ale, will be available in Sweden, Finland and Norway beginning in September.

CCB’s beer, including award-winning Jai Alai IPA, is available in twenty three states encompassing Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Delaware, California, Massachusetts, Arizona, Maryland, Wisconsin and Kentucky, as well as Puerto Rico. Sweden will represent Cigar City Brewing’s first foray into full-time distribution in an international market.

Unibroue’s “Ale Gâteau Forêt-Noire,” Arriving in October

North America (Sept. 10, 2018) – A new Belgian-style dark specialty ale from Unibroue, Ale Gâteau Forêt-Noire (“Black Forest Cake Ale”), is arriving exclusively in the U.S. as a limited release in early October.

This 10.5 percent ABV brew has a medium body and a fine, champagne-like effervescence. The roast and chocolate are complemented by delicate fruity accents and a slightly tart finish. Smooth and perfectly balanced, Ale Gâteau Forêt-Noire is the ideal accompaniment for Black Forest cake, cocoa-based Mexican dishes (such as mole), meat loaf, log-type goat cheese, and blue or comté cheese.

The beer will be available in the U.S. while supplies last on draft, in four-packs of 12-oz bottles, in cork and cage 750-ml painted bottles, and as part of a seasonal variety six-pack.

Dragon’s Milk Reserve – Banana Coconut



GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., (August 23, 2018) – Seventeen years after introducing its legendary Dragon’s Milk Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout to fans around the country, New Holland Brewing Company, an artisan craft brewer based in Holland, Mich., is introducing a dramatic new look for their flagship recipe. To celebrate the re-brand, the company is also releasing a never-before tasted brew: Dragon’s Milk Reserve – Banana Coconut.Available in September and bringing the traditional roasted, malty and smooth characteristics of Dragon’s Milk, Banana Coconut features hints of real banana, plantain and coconut delivered in a creamy, rich bourbon barrel-aged stout. 11% alcohol, 30IBU.

Malts: 2-row, Munich, Caramel, Flaked Barley, Chocolate, Black and Honey

Hops: Nugget, Brewer’s Gold

Dragon’s Milk Reserve – Banana Coconut is available until sold out and is released on draft and in single 12-ounce bottles, 4-packs of 12-ounce bottles and 24-pack cases of 12-ounce bottles.

Spice Things Up This Fall with Punkin Ale from Dogfish Head!


Milton, Del., September 4, 2018 –Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Punkin Ale is back! Clocking in at 7% ABV, this beer is brewed with real pumpkin, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Passionate about all things artistic and creative, Dogfish teamed up with longtime friend and highly acclaimed designer, Marq Spusta, a California-based artist known for his distinct illustrative style, to create the Off-Centered Art Series label and artwork for Punkin Ale.  The label features Spusta’s version of a mystically haunted, Halloween forest with spooky characters.
